  • Ideal for night sky and land-based viewing
  • Penta mirror for left-to-right view
  • Adjustable hardwood tripod
  • Magnification: 470x
  • Objective lens: 60mm

Advertising that this telescope can operate at 470x magnification is misleading, to put it kindly. Common rules of thumb in astronomy would recommend this telescope good for up to about 120x (50x per inch of lens diameter) maximum on a night of stable sky conditions.

Bushnell Voyager Bushnell NorthStar 900x114mm Motorized

Bushnell NorthStar 900x114mm Motorized "Go To" Reflector Telescope

Got it used without any lenses 3rd hand for less than $50. Invested in a Zhumell eyepiece set. Came with four lenses, a 2x barlow and 7 assorted filters with recommendations on which planets to use each for, including a moon filter. Also ordered a standard old fashioned Collimator. Got both in the male after work on Fri. Collimated and lined up the site scope while the sun was still up. Was able to catch jaw dropping views of the moon right after night fall. This is not a bad scope at all. I am planning on getting a bigger one soon, but this is awesome and a lot of fun learning on. Plus the digital control really makes it easy, I found, to control views of the moon with out touching it by had. I look forward to learning the auto control features of this thing...the sky tour, point and identify. I read the reviews on here before I bought it. I was not expecting this quality and sharpness of views. I look forward to having many enjoyable expeditions with this scope. I think it's great.

I bought this as a present for my 12 year old daughter. It seems a little advanced for her but seems to be a very nice telescope, after we figure it out.

Sky Tour 76mm Reflector Telescope

I just received the Bushnell Voyager 700x76mm as a recognition gift from my company. My excitement about what was a very nice gift was quickly diminished. I have had it for two days now and cannot seem to get it to work "at all". I am fairly intelligent and I am not new to telescopes, but this thing will amke you feel stupid

The instructions are some of the most ambiguous and incomplete I have ever seen. The three eyepieces and the two lens holders seem to serve no useful purpose, and there are no instructions on how to use them or what results you are to expect.

This Red Dot Finderscope is a joke, as it does not work. I was able to see a vague red dot for about a few minutes during my attempt to setup this thing and have not been able to see one since. One of set screws that support the Red Dot Finderscope is loose inside the main telescope housing and I can't tighen it.

The "vague, or lack of" instructions continue with no explanation about the battery placement in the Altitude Dial. After you have done all the setup, you will notice an extra battery lying around, and if you are lucky, or smart, you will figure out it goes in the Altitude Dial.

The "focusing the telescope" and "aligning the finderscope" procedure does not work. One precedes the other, but it really should be the other way around. The telescope does not focus and you leave the alignment to chance - hoping you have done it correctly. Based on the instructions, you're to simply look down the barrel of the telescope - go figure.

This is not a beginner's telescope for sure, at least, not based on the poorly written instructions.

Bushnell Voyager Bushnell Voyager Sky Tour 70mm Reflector Telescope

Bushnell Voyager Bushnell Voyager Sky Tour 70mm Reflector Telescope

I have this telescope and completely recommend buying something different (I also have other telescopes, fortunately).

The telescope itself is about average for a low end refractor. The lens isn't up to astronomical standards, and the included eyepieces are just OK. It is the mount that is completely useless.

Let me describe the points:
The Telescope is an f11 telescope, which isn't bad, but I don't believe there are any coatings on the main lens to reduce chromatic aberration, so bright objects will have colorful halos.

The eyepieces are 1.25 inch diameter and that's good. If you wanted, or already have them, you can use really good eyepieces with the telescope. With the uncoated objective lens, that might be a waste of effort.

Those are the good points.

The mount (the head on the top of the tripod) is poorly designed. There are detents in the vertical axis (called altitude) that prevent you from pointing at certain angles easily. The telescope will prefer to click up or down to the next detent. That is unacceptable. The problem doesn't exist in the horizontal axis (azimuth).

The tripod is cheaply made and may not be stable enough to use, but it was hard to tell with the limits imposed by the mount.

The telescope comes with an audio tour guide. Setting the time and date should allow you to hear a "tour" of the objects currently visible. Setting the time and date are really painful and the descriptions, while moderately interesting weren't really very informative. That might not be a problem for a raw beginner, but the raw beginner is going to have so many other issue with this telescope that this doesn't help. For anyone more than a raw beginner, the sky tour doesn't offer much.

  • The telescope while very nice is difficult to use. First the manual is not very good and fails to tell you how to align the spotting scope. It has a very nice vernier movement for the horizontal, but for vertical adjustments you have to do this by hand. it makes it very hard to center on and view small objects.

The sky talk feature is also not very good, and with poor instructions. We could not get it to go past the first or second object it identified. I did help us to identify Jupiter, and we were able to see three of the moons very clearly with the telescope. It took a couple nights of work to get that into view.
